Amazon Testing Third-Party Sellers Verification Via Video Conferencing

E-commerce giant Amazon is implementing a new verification system to identify the third-party sellers on its platform via video conferencing, this major step has been taken in consideration to minimise the fraudulent accounts and listings on its platform.

Currently, this new pilot program available in US, UK, China and Japan, around 1,000 + sellers have been attempted to register an account via pilot experience.

This major step has helped amazon to stop 2.5 million suspected bad actors to publish their products on its platform in 2019.

According to Amazon spokesperson “As we practice social distancing, we are testing a process that allows us to validate prospective sellers’ identification via video conferencing, This pilot allows us to connect one-on-one with prospective sellers while making it even more difficult for fraudsters to hide “

How This Video Conferencing Verification Work

  • Seller verification is done by the Amazon team on video conferencing, they will check the individual’s ID and documents they shared with their application
  • Amazon associates also take help from third-party data sources for additional verification
  • Amazon also use machine learning system to remove suspected bad actors
