Vande Bharat 2.0 Upgraded Technologies

It is common knowledge that any new technology, when launched, will need to be upgraded as the technology moves forward to serve its purpose. In this case, Vande Bharat is no different. With the advent of Vande Bharat’s Version 2.0, we can see many new iterative upgrades that have been seen since its launch on 1st October. 2022 are:

  • Enhanced Safety Measures: Introducing Kavach (Train Collision Avoidance System) has increased safety during train operations. Vande Bharat 2.0 now features four emergency windows per coach, significantly improving passenger safety in critical situations. Furthermore, installing four platform-side cameras and rear-view cameras outside the coaches provides an added layer of security. In addition, the train is equipped with superior flood-proofing capabilities that can withstand floods up to 650 mm, ensuring uninterrupted service even in challenging conditions.
  • Improved Amenities For Passengers: Vande Bharat 2.0 has been designed with passenger comfort as a top priority. The riding index has been improved to enhance riding comfort and create a more enjoyable journey experience, with a score of 3.5 out of 5 on the scale. The train now includes energy-efficient air conditioners that are 15% more efficient than previous models.
  • Customer Experience Enhancements: Vande Bharat 2.0 aims to elevate the travel experience by introducing lavish enhancements. Previously exclusive to Executive Class passengers, the side recliner seat facility is now available across all classes. Additionally, the Executive Coaches boast seats that can rotate 180 degrees, allowing passengers to personalize their seating arrangements. The train also features state-of-the-art bio vacuum toilets with touch-free amenities for optimal hygiene and convenience. Furthermore, travelers can enjoy uninterrupted connectivity and entertainment throughout their journey thanks to Wi-Fi content on demand.
  • Technological Advancements: Vande Bharat 2.0 showcases impressive engineering innovations. A more efficient compressor combined with an Ultra Violet (UV) lamp ensures a constant supply of germ-free air, promoting a healthier environment onboard the train. The time it takes for Vande Bharat 2.0 to reach a speed of 160 KMPH has been optimized to just 140 seconds, demonstrating improved acceleration capabilities.

How Is Kavach Anti-Collision System Related With Vande Bharat 2.0?

The Railway Kavach System is an autonomous train protection system that detects and stops potential collisions on railway lines using RFID tags. It works so that the Radio frequency identification (RFID) tags are inserted in locomotives and railway lines every 1 kilometer in the Kavach System. These tags provide for the rapid identification of any potential accident by delivering an alarm if a trained pilot disregards a Signal Passed at Danger (SPAD).The Railway Kavach System can take control of the locomotive and apply brakes to avoid a collision.

Significance Of Kavach System In Indian Railways

Automatic Train Protection (ATP) systems, such as the Kavach System, are essential because they can help to avoid railway accidents. Signal jumping is the most common cause of railway accidents. A railway collision can result in fatalities and injuries. Kavach Technology can save lives and infrastructure by detecting potential railway crashes. This technology monitors locomotive movement and instantly alerts if a prospective collision is detected. Furthermore, the Kavach Railways System is extremely useful in low-visibility weather conditions.

Note: The Kavach’s Trial Run has already been done on 4th March 2022 in the Secunderabad railway division successfully

Conclusion

Vande Bharat 2.0 is a testament to India’s unwavering commitment to its citizens despite global challenges. This evolved phase of the mission reflects the nation’s adaptability and determination to continue facilitating the safe return of its people from abroad while embracing the lessons learned from the initial Vande Bharat initiative.
