The quality of the batteries that are used to power such vehicles has been compromised as a result of a sudden surge in the momentum of EV adoption. The AIS 156 and AIS 038 Rev.2 new/revised safety requirements came into effect in October 2022. Additional safety requirements for EV battery cells, Battery Management Systems (BMS), battery pack design, heat propagation, on-board charger, and other issues are included in these standards.

According to the Review Report of the Automotive Mission Plan for 2016, the auto industry has a turnover rate of 7.1%. By avoiding the dependence on imported petroleum goods, which would cost the nation valuable foreign currency, switching to electric vehicles can save fossil fuels worth roughly $100 billion annually. This will also cut city pollution by 80–90%. In order to immediately decarbonize the transportation industry, the government wants EV sales to account for 30% of private automobiles, 70% of commercial vehicles, and 80% of two- and three-wheelers by 2030. By 2030, India may reduce its use of crude oil by 156 million tonnes, or Rs 3.5 lakh crore, if electric vehicle sales reach 40% in the automobile and two-wheeler categories and close to 100% in the bus sector.
